Eutocius
of Ascalon

The ancient world’s best math hype man. Eutocius of Ascalon (fl. 6th century CE) didn’t just admire Archimedes — he annotated him with the devotion of a true fan-scholar. His commentaries on Archimedes, Apollonius, and other mathematical heavyweights preserved crucial proofs and techniques for later generations. Clear, technical, and full of admiration, Eutocius kept the classical flame alive in a post-classical world. Without him, half the brilliance of Greek math might’ve stayed in the margins.
