Marinus
of Neapolis
The Neoplatonist who held the torch after Proclus. Marinus of Neapolis (fl. late 5th century CE) was a philosopher and biographer, best known for his Life of Proclus, a blend of reverence, Neoplatonism, and careful storytelling. He taught, wrote, and kept the flame of the Athenian school alive just as the ancient world began to fade. Less mystical than Iamblichus, more personal than Plotinus — Marinus reminds us that even in decline, philosophy still had heart.
