Heraclitus
of Ephesus

Dark, cryptic, and constantly on fire — literally and metaphorically. Heraclitus of Ephesus (fl. early 5th century BCE) believed everything flows, nothing stands still, and the cosmos is ruled by a fiery Logos that most people are too sleepy to notice. He wrote in riddles and grumbles, earning the nickname “The Obscure.” No school, no students — just a river of thought, always shifting. With Heraclitus, change isn’t just constant — it’s sacred.
