Empedocles
of Acragas

Philosopher, poet, and maybe a miracle-working prophet. Empedocles (c. 495–435 BCE) declared that all things are made of four roots — earth, air, fire, and water — stirred by Love and Strife. He wrote in verse, healed the sick, and allegedly threw himself into a volcano to prove his divinity. (Spoiler: the sandal gave him away.) Equal parts mystic and scientist, Empedocles didn’t separate reason from wonder — he fused them, elementally.
