Anaxagoras
of Clazomenae
The man who brought cosmic nous to the party. Anaxagoras (c. 500–428 BCE) believed everything was mixed with everything — until Mind (νοῦς) showed up and stirred the universe into order. He explained eclipses, argued the sun was a hot rock (true), and got exiled for being a bit too rational in a divine city. With him, the cosmos wasn’t chaos — it was structured, intentional, and surprisingly brainy. First philosopher charged with impiety, but definitely not the last.
